After our initial group shoot with the three stars of the pilot presentation of Lena Waithe’s Twenties we sat down for a roundtable discussion of sorts. After more than two hours of conversation we never intended to publish the full interview but it was too good not to. We fine tuned it and cut it down a bit.
During our conversation we played “Who’s Who,” talked about the surge of natural hair in the industry & related pressure, did a quick round of our signature “How Do We Feel About…” (Zoe Saldana as Nina Simone, Tyler Perry), discussed Dear White People and the resurgence of Brilliant Black Media and the actors’ love & obsession with Lena Waithe’s Twenties and how they hope they as well as Twenties can be an inspiration to other Black girls everywhere.
Enjoy this hilarious, revealing and inspirational conversation with Courtney Sauls who plays Hattie in the pilot presentation, Ashley Blaine Featherson who plays Marie, and Nia Jervier who plays Nia, a character inspired by her!
