Hey friends and loved ones! So, as you know, we over at The ViP are all about watching folks of color be great on television. Sadly most of our Fall/Winter faves are wrapping up and you’re going to have an unusual amount of free time on your hands in the coming months. Don’t fret because I have a few suggestions for activities you can partake in, in lieu of having your heart broken by Annalise Keating or being scared shitless by The Walking Dead.
1. Go Outside
I know, I know. There’s a lot of crazy, weird things going on outdoors like police harassing folks or white people laying in pop up hammocks but hear me out! There’s a ton of fun stuff to do outside: make new friends, listen to live music at a festival, float down a river while drinking Limearitas!
The possibilities are endless! If none of that floats your boat you can totes sit by a body of water, under a tree and engage with no one but your iPod. That always works because you’re technically still outside getting that good Vitamin D *insert inappropriate joke about sex and the letter D*.
2. Read A Book
Hey kids, there’s no better time to catch up on a book than during the 60 minutes when you would’ve been watching Meredith Grey and ’em occasionally save a life or two while they simultaneously work on their personal issues. If you have no idea what book to pick up check out some of our fave reads in wokeness here, here and also here. I promise you, taking your eyes off the screen for a bit is good for your eyes and your chakras. It’s scientifically proven…sorta.
3. Discover a New Series/Movie on a Streaming Service.
You’re probably wondering what there is to do after sitting outside for a while and perusing a few pages of revolutionary literature. Well if you must return to the couch there’s always Netflix, Hulu, HBO GO and even Showtime Anytime. At this point, everyone knows someone with an HBO GO password. If your mama won’t let you use hers, ask a friend. If that friend doesn’t have one, ask their mama and so on and so forth.

4. Prepare For Next Fall
So you’ve watched all the shows, read some of the books and have spent at least 30 minutes of time outside of your house, now what? Well, prepare for next fall because as we all know, many of our faves left us with annoying and unnecessary cliffhangers (here’s looking at you Walking Dead and How To Get Away With Murder). You think you’re just going to wake up one day in September and be ready to pick up where you left off?
I’m here to tell you, that’s not how this works. Before your faves premiere in the fall make sure you’re caught up on all plot twists you may have forgotten about and make sure you’ve gotten your heart in order to hop back into whatever foolishness your show has put you through.
